About me

Hi and Welcome to my blog about the history of my family

.

My name is Trevor Hazell and I was born in Merewether, a suburb of Newcastle in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. I grew up here and was educated in the Catholic School system (which, thankfully, I survived relatively unscathed) although I am no longer a member of any church or subscribe to any religion.  I do remain committed to the values I learned from my family, my community, and my school and these have been the themes that have influenced my decisions, my relationships and (when I am being “good”) my behaviour.  I am thankful to everyone who has helped me learn and grow (even if they didn’t mean to).

Apart from the two years I lived in Adelaide where I completed a postgraduate degree in social work, I lived and worked in Newcastle for about thirty years until Jules and I moved to the Central Western region of NSW for work and for our health.

We are both now retired and involved in various activities in our community.

Generally, I take a socialist rather than an individualist view of most issues in our community, believing that I have an obligation to use the benefits I have received from family, community, country etc., and that, when we have a community that is socially healthy, then individuals have a better chance of having a fulfilled life.  So, justice, freedom, education, social inclusion and health (wholistic) are primary in my priorities for myself and my community.

In telling stories about our families’ history, I will tend to focus (where I can) on how our ancestors lived, how their communities affected them, and how they may have contributed to their place and time
