Hi to all readers.
When I first started my family history studies, my father had just died, and I was driven by my sense of loss to find out more about his ancestors. Somehow this kept his memory in my mind, and, as I am doing this work, he remains there as does my mum and grandmother with whom I had a close relationship.
Some of the questions I started asking were: Where did the Hazell surname come from? Who was the first Hazell to come to Australia and when did he arrive? (I know it was a ‘he’ because a surname is almost always inherited from the paternal ancestor). Where did he come from and why did he come? Where did he first settle? Who did he marry?
After many years of research, I have found the answers to these questions and so much more. I found that answering one question led to many more and, so, the work is never ending.
I have started this blog for a number of reasons:
- For somewhere to write short stories on the things I have learned about my ancestors
- To respond to some requests I have from our siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews etc. for stories about our ancestors
- To give our family members a place to contribute their stories so we can learn more as well
- To hopefully attract the attention of those who are related to our forebears and whom we haven’t met yet and to give them a chance to contribute stories as well.
I invite the interest and participation of anyone who is connected to us through these family lines.
